Honoring John P. Musante
John P. Musante devoted his life to his family, his community and to public service. He held the position of Amherst’s Town Manager for five years before his untimely death in September 2015 at age 53.
Being Amherst's Town Manager was John’s “dream job” and more: it was an opportunity to bring his remarkable skill, compassion and experience to the service of the community.
A native of Northampton and long-time Amherst resident, John understood the numerous and complex challenges people face and he skillfully utilized the tools of government to address them. The economic hardship that is a constant struggle for so many in our area was a guiding force in his leadership on affordable housing, public transportation, sup- port for local human service agencies, and more.
Establishing a satellite community health center in Amherst was a cause John championed. It was part of his desire to make a vital difference in the lives of friends and neighbors. He recognized the public good that comes from improving access to care for those underserved by or disconnected from current health networks.
Though we deeply wish he could see it in action, caring for the children, adults and seniors of our community, we are glad that it will memorialize his work and vision. Please help support his vision.
