Yesterday, I was able to break my mileage record by going a little over 44 miles, from New Smyrna to Palm Coast. I have been getting great advice from Amherst College alum Jonathan Welch '84 who has completed the ICW 19 times! He has been helping to predict when I can expect favorable tides and currents so that I can plan more carefully the timing of my rowing periods. This has been extremely helpful and was part of why I was able to complete 44 miles yesterday. Today, after consulting with John, the tides are more tricky and I may need to stop for a 2-3 hour break while they are running against me. This adds time but it will go a long way to conserve energy while still ensurin my goal for distance. Today that goal is 30 miles and at St. Augustine.
I took this picture a few days ago thinking I might benefit from some rowing lessons.
